Examples

12 ft × 10 ft room, 10% wastage: 120 sq ft + 12 sq ft wastage = 132 sq ft total. At $3.50/sq ft, material cost ≈ $462.
5 m × 4 m room, 10% wastage: 20 sq m + 2 sq m wastage = 22 sq m total. At $25/sq m, material cost ≈ $550.
15 ft × 12 ft room, 15% wastage, 20 sq ft per box: 180 sq ft + 27 sq ft wastage = 207 sq ft ≈ 11 boxes needed.

Frequently asked questions

What is wastage and why include it?Wastage is extra material to account for cuts, mistakes, and offcuts. Simple rectangular rooms often need 5–10%; rooms with many corners, angles, or patterns may need 15% or more.
How do I measure my room?Measure the length and width at the widest points. For L-shaped or irregular rooms, split them into rectangles, calculate each area, and add the results together.
Does this include underlay, adhesive, or trims? No — this calculator covers the top flooring material only. Add underlay, adhesive, skirting, and other supplies separately.
What if my room has a closet or alcove?Measure the closet as a separate rectangle and add its area to the main room, or measure the overall length and width including the alcove as one rectangle.
Is the cost estimate accurate? It is a rough estimate based on the price per unit you enter and the total material area. Actual prices, waste, and installation costs vary by supplier and location.
