Frequently asked questions

What fuel economy should I enter?
Use the official figure from your vehicle's manual or a realistic average from your own fill-ups. Real-world economy is often lower than the official rating, especially in city driving.
Does this include anything besides fuel?
No. It covers fuel only. Tolls, parking, wear and tear, and maintenance are not included.
Can I use this for a round trip?
Yes — just enter the full round-trip distance. For a daily commute, enter the daily distance and multiply the result by the number of commuting days if you want a weekly or monthly figure.
What if I don't know my fuel economy?
A reasonable starting point is the official rating for your vehicle. If you track fill-ups, your actual miles per gallon or liters per 100 km over a few tanks is more accurate.
Does the calculator support electric vehicles?
This calculator is for liquid fuel. For an EV, you would use energy consumption in kWh per 100 km and electricity cost per kWh instead.
